Skylight is a site-specific virtual light exhibition which brings together virtual reality and installation medium. I experiment with tesseract, a form of four-dimensional cube analogy in mod- ern geometry in the Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamam (İstanbul). Examining the form, I discover that the star motifs used in architecture and decoration, developed around 1000 years ago in the an- cient east, are stereographic projections of the four-dimensional cube. And with these motifs, four-dimensional analogies, inter-dimensional transitions and the realization of the divine, I make a light installation, a witness to knowledge’s journey during the last few thousand years. And it interacts with the space in the Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamam (Istanbul) as a traditional - futuristic - public - private synthesis space.
The music produced by David McAulay for the installation removes its boundaries and increases the volume of its spatial presence through its interaction with the work. Composed on the Octatonic scale using pure sinusoid waves due to the installation’s relation to geometry, the piece starts with a basic eight-note pattern before gradually expanding into broader and more complex harmonic structures, like a hypercube.
Therefore, this unity between the two artists becomes a meeting of the visual and the auditory and a reconciliation of the queries of reality, illusion, and perception.
